There are many châteaux that line the Dordogne river and we have listed a few but there are more for you to discover as the Dordogne has over a 100 châteaux from ruins to ones that are inhabited.

Château de Hautefort with its gardens is one of the most prestigious châteaux in south west France.  It appeals to lovers of art as well as those who like to wander around magnificent gardens.

Château des Milandes was built in 1489 by Lord Castlenaud and has fantastic panoramic views over the Dordogne valley. This château is only a 15 minute drive from us and was once home of Joséphine Baker.  There is an exhibition of wax statues, stage costumes, clothes from major fashion houses and some of her unpublished documents.  In the grounds you can watch a falconry display.

Castlenaud (about 20 minutes away) takes you back to the Middle Ages and is 'one of the most visited châteaux in south west France'.  You can watch knights fighting, explore the castle and marvel at the display of weapons from days gone by.

Marqueyssac gardens is 'one of the most romantic in all of France' and is set in the historic park of 22 hectares, only 20 minutes from us.  There are 150,000 boxwood plants, which in the summer evenings are lit by thousands of tea-lights, it's beautiful.  The jardin de Marqueyssac offers an uninterrupted view of 10km of the most famous castles and villages in the Dordogne; Beynac, Fayrac, Castlenaud, La Roque Gageac, Domme etc.
